Keokea Ho'olaule'a Upcountry Festival 10am-4pm Aug 29 Kula

Musicians Namaka Cosma and Sean Parks headline a month-end Upcountry festival. The Keokea Ho'olaule'a features myriad attractions, including daylong entertainment; food, crafts and plant vendors; cultural workshops; keiki activities, and a dwarf-goats petting zoo.

Namaka Cosma is “pursuing her passion of singing traditional Hawaiian mele,” Grammy winner George Kahumoku Jr. wrote on his website about the daughter of the late Na Hoku Hanohano awardee Pekelo Cosma of Hana. Ki ho'alu (slack-key guitar) recording artist Sean Parks, of Kalapana on Hawaii island, accompanies her from 1:05 to 2:30 p.m. at the fest. Other performers include Ke Ola Hou with Kevin Brown from 10 to 11:30 a.m.; Aua Le Fefe keiki fire-dance group from 12:05 to 1 p.m., and Neva Too Late trio from 2:35 to 4 p.m.

Come early for Aunty Robin’s perennial-sellout pastele-stew plate lunch. Two dozen vendors range from Holoholo Garlic Noodles; Maui Bowls; Nanay Lumpia; the Portuguese Association of Maui, and Squeeze Maui. Also, Aloha by Lala; J. Clark Designs; Honi Designs; Maui Misfits, and Nova Maui Jewelry. Cultural workshops offer hulu featherwork, lauhala weaving, and ku'i kalo, or poi pounding.
