Maui's largest thrift shop, Secondhand Heaven is open every Saturday and Wednesday 9am to 2pm. Nine rooms on four levels with 20+ 'departments' including clothing, shoes, jewelry, housewares, arts'n'crafts, office supplies, furniture, sports equipment, hardware, artwork, sewing machines, sewing patterns, fabric, linens, luggage, entertainment, puzzles, games, movies, toys, TWO boutiques, and more. We're the Home of the One-Dollar Clothes in the Bargain Basement. All baby and keiki items and all health and medical supplies are always FREE. An average of 2700 people walk through the door each month
We missed you this summer and are so happy to have you return to amazing thrift-shopping opportunities. You're going to find a few changes in the shop, including new lights and fans for comfort, more open floor space in some areas, and lots of new displays.
Item donations are welcomed 9am to 12pm on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Located in the Community Hall at Makawao Union Church, 1445 Baldwin Avenue, with plenty of free parking. The shop is run by volunteers - no one is paid - all revenue goes to maintaining and preserving the church's 110+ year-old buildings. We're always looking for volunteers for 4-hour shifts (or more)! Come on in and join the team. The shop doesn’t have a phone; get in touch by emailing joyofrecycling@gmail.com. Please visit our Facebook page to see photos of the many types of treasures available.
Secondhand Heaven is an outreach program of Makawao Union Church. It's mission: To reflect God's love for our friends and neighbors by providing low-cost, high quality goods in a respectful manner that acknowledges the worth and preserves the dignity of all persons; and To encourage environmental stewardship by keeping good, usable materials out of the landfill and putting them in the hands of people who can use them; and To maintain the historic buildings of Makawao Union Church to further our outreach to the community. The revenue from sales at Secondhand Heaven supports the Makawao Union Church Preservation and Maintenance Fund.
In early 2018, three Makawao Union Church members - Shaun Lyons, Richard Rose, and Joy Webster - planned the origins of the shop , from the layout of clothing racks to the policies covering everything from merchandise returns to pets-on-leashes. Add generous donations of household items, available space in the Community Hall, enthusiastic volunteers and hence was created the magical place called Secondhand Heaven which opened its doors on February 3, 2018.
