20th annual Maui Arbor Day Garden Expo & Tree Giveaway 9am-2pm Nov 4/23
Come talk story with residents who have new questions about: whether residents need to cut down their trees for fire safety, what is happening to LÄhainÄ's historic trees, how they can help replant Upcountry fire affected areas, and what is most needed by West side Ê»ohana.
There will be food and drinks, free Hawaiian craft activities, free speakers and presentations, Maui nurseries with fruit trees and other hard to find plants, and plenty of tree and plant care advice.
We are returning to first come, first served tree distribution (no online reservations). There will be more native trees than ever to get into the hands of people who will adopt them: more than 2,500 trees of at least 20 species. We will be including a Hale ʻŌhiʻa as we did in 2022, and we are adding a Hale ʻUlu for those who want to see more ʻulu trees planted on Maui. Kahanu Gardens and the Breadfruit Institute will be there with ʻulu trees for sale and varieties information, and John Cadman of Maui Breadfruit Company will be serving up ʻulu curry. Hokuao Pelligrino has agreed to speak on the history of ʻulu on Mauna Kahalawai.
