The Jazz Maui 2024 Maui Music Series presents "Mostly Duke" featuring Tommy James 7:30-9:30pm
The Jazz Maui 2024 Maui Music Series presents "Mostly Duke" featuring renowned pianist Tommy James. "Mostly Duke" features the music of collaborators Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. In addition to the standards such as "Take the A-Train" and "Satin Doll", the performance highlights lesser known gems including excerpts from the Ellington Suites, an award-winning album of their original compositions.
Jazz pianist Tommy James is also a composer, arranger and music director. He has been the pianist and music director of the Duke Ellington Orchestra and worked with a wide range of artists including Lionel Hampton, Joe Williams, Maureen McGovern, Cleo Laine/John Dankworth, Melba Moore, The Spinners, and the Temptations.
On September 14th, Tommy leads an all star-ensemble of local professional jazz musicians: saxophonist John Zangrando, drummer Howie Rentzer, bassist Dave Graber, and guest vocalist Sheryl Renee.
Jazz Maui, a branch of the 501(c)-3 nonrofit Arts Education for Children Group[ (www.aecg.org), provides opportunities for participation in high quality jazz music education and performances. Throughout the year Jazz Maui presents Sunset Jazz everry Sunday and the Pau Hana Series every Friday in Lahaina, outstanding visiting virtuosos in a bi-monthly concert series in Kihei and special concerts, clinic,s and classes held at various venues around the islands. Jazz Maui supports Jazz Night at the Empanada Lady in Wailuku and Sheryl Renee "Salutes" at ProArts.
