Maui Ki Aikido will offer “Japanese Bokken as the Key to Mind-Body Awareness,” an introductory course in practicing with the Japanese wooden sword, on 4 Wednesday nights in July, beginning July 10, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, at Maui Ki Aikido’s Shunshinkan Dojo, 194 South Market in Wailuku.
“The Japanese look at the sword not as a weapon of destruction, but as an object of inspiration. The importance of practicing with a bokken is not to learn how to wield a weapon. Instead it is to learn the principle of putting all of our mind and body into whatever we are holding or using, whether it be a pen, a kitchen knife, or a golf club,” according to the instructing sensei, Tracy Reasoner.
The 4-week course is $40 total, and can be applied to ongoing dues if the participant joins the dojo to continue training after the end of the course. Registration is at the dojo July 10 from 6:00 to 6:15 pm. For more information, please see mauikiaikido.com or call 808-357-5172.
