Haleakala Service in Beautiful Paliku May 25-28/24

The Friends of Haleakala National Park are excited to offer a special service trip opportunity at the Paliku Ranger Cabin from May 25-28 (Saturday to Tuesday). Are you fit and eager to contribute to Haleakala's preservation? Under the guidance of the National Park Service, participants will work to control invasive plants in the misty Waike'eke'ehia area, helping to protect the habitat of native and endangered honeycreeper forest birds and nene.

This trip offers a unique chance to experience the area nestled in the cloud forests above Kaupo Gap. It's not only a way to give back to the Maui community and the park but also an opportunity to connect deeply with the 'Aina. We believe this is the best way to witness the Haleakala sunrise - from inside the crater wilderness!

Participants must be physically capable of being in the outdoors (sun/ heat/ cold), and at higher elevations, walking on uneven terrain up to 5 miles each shift, and carrying a backpack with a sleeping bag, a share of the community dinners, and other personal items. Safety equipment and tools will be provided by Haleakala National Park.

To join this trip, first visit and register your readiness at the website www.fhnp.org where more information can be found about the FHNP mission and service opportunities to preserve and protect Haleakala National Park. Contact Beth ( beth@fhnp.org) to secure your spot.

Spaces are limited - sign up today to join like-minded "Friends of Haleakala" and make a meaningful impact!

Stretching across east Maui, Haleakala National Park is home to Haleakala Crater, an active, but not currently erupting volcano, and Maui's highest peak. Rising over 10,000 feet above sea level, Haleakala's graceful slopes can be seen from just about any point on the island. Haleakala means "House of the Sun" in Hawaiian, and legend has it that the demigod Maui lassoed the sun itself from its summit to slow the sun's journey across the skies.

Location Specifics: Crater Wilderness
