The Clean Water Act And Our Reefs: Litigation to Protect the Publicís Interests in Healthy Reefs
The Sea Talk will discuss the ongoing efforts by Maui residents to use the Clean Water Act to protect coral reefs from harmful pollution associated with Maui County’s use of injection wells at the Lahaina Wastewater Reclamation Facility, which discharge millions of gallons of treated sewage each day into the nearshore marine waters off Kahekili Beach Park in West Maui. The Supreme Court will take up the case this fall.
David is a staff attorney in the Honolulu office of Earthjustice, a national, nonprofit, public-interest environmental law organization. Since 2012, David has represented four Maui community groups Hawai‘i Wildlife Fund, Sierra Club Maui Group, Surfrider Foundation, and West Maui Preservation Association—in litigation challenging the County of Maui’s violations of the Clean Water Act at the Lahaina Wastewater Reclamation Facility.
