Maui Men's March Against Violence
The University of Hawaii Maui College announced today PAU Violence, a UH Maui College intimate partner violence prevention project, in collaboration with the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa Women's Center, and MADE IN HOPE, invites everyone in the community to participate in "Maui Men’s March Against Violence," an organized men's march to end domestic violence, intimate partner violence, and gender violence. This event will be held on Thursday, October 25th, 2018, from 3:30 p.m. starting at by Kahului Boys & Girls club in Kahului. Marching to the front lawn of the UH Maui College campus Great Lawn.
The campus will be open to our Maui community with some food, music, and informational services from our local agencies. We are inviting our students, faculty and staff, community agencies, UH Maui College Administrators, support agencies, State and County officials, and everyone in the community to this educational experience.
Every October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the MMMAV seeks to inspire participation in a community event that focuses attention on the need for both men and women to become involved. With civic and corporate action, victims can become survivors and together we can build a safe and healthy community. We must all unite to put an end to Domestic violence in our community!
For more than 40 years, the community leaders addressing partner abuse have been women. The best strategy for effectively addressing violence in families and relationships involves everyone. Partner violence does not discriminate. It touches all races, religions, socioeconomic classes, professions and age groups. There is a role for each sector and the engagement by men will strengthen community wide efforts.
Believing that men and women can work together as allies in shifting paradigms, changing worldviews and ending the injustices of patriarchy, the men and women of Maui County can stand united with one voice.
