Ai Iwane's Photo Exhibit "Island in My Mind, Fukushima"
The photo exhibit "Island in My Mind, Fukushima" will be shown at Schaefer Internatipnal Gallery, Maui Arts & Cultural Center from June 23–August 17, 2018.
This exhibit features panoramic images of the evacuation zone at Fukushima, Japan, taken after the earthquake/tsunami and nuclear power plant disasters in 2011. Ai Iwane took the photos using an old Kodak Cirkut, a large-format 360-degree rotating panoramic camera that was first used in the 1930’s, by Harold Nagamine, who founded the Nagamine Photo Studio in Lahaina on 1931.
