Maui Author Malia Bohlin to Hold Book Signing
On Saturday, November 25th, from 12:00 – 3:00pm, Maui author Malia Bohlin will hold a book signing event at the Maui Friends of the Library Queen Kaahumanu Store.
Left at Hiva Oa is a coming-of-age tale that takes place on the open sea as America evolves from the conservative 50s to the fun-loving 60s. It follows the dreams and plans of two recent US Merchant Marine Academy graduates as they set out on an around-the-world sailing adventure on their 40’ schooner the Gracias. Even with their careful planning, training, and enthusiasm, things go drastically awry, changing plans, the crew, and ultimately the course of the Gracias, unexpectedly leaving one of them crossing the Pacific alone in a frantic battle for his life.
Left at Hiva Oa is based on a true story about her father, Captain Ken Bohlin, who worked as a Hawaii Harbor Pilot for 15 years, primarily at Kahului Harbor. Later he served as captain of the tug boat the Joe Sevier.
Malia Bohlin was born in Honolulu and raised on Maui. She attended Baldwin High School, and later the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Mass Communication. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Non-Profit Management form Regis University in Denver, Colorado.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase, benefitting Maui Friends of the Library.
