Upcountry Maui Town of Makawao Celebrates Going Green at "Friday Town Parties"

On Friday, March 15, 2013 from 6 – 9 p.m., the Upcountry Maui town of Makawao celebrates going GREEN at “Friday Town Parties”. This festive street
festival, held on the third Friday of each month, will show the town’s commitment to Maui’s beauty by promoting green practices to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Feature Main Stage entertainment includes EKOLU trio and back by popular demand, Joshua-on-Maui and his band.  The Makai stage will
feature soloist Richard Dancil, followed by KKHS Ukulele Students and The Na Ali`i Big Band of Jazz. And the top of Makawao will feature Hoaloha Westcott and Children of the Forest.  Makawao merchants will offer retail and service specials. 

The “Makawao Third Friday Town Party” monthly event series offers a unique opportunity for the Maui public to kick-off the weekend in leisurely
exploration of historic Makawao, connect and mingle with the many merchants, artists and neighbors in the area, and to enjoy a festive outdoor event in the quaint atmosphere the town provides.  In addition to appealing to the local community, the Makawao Third Friday Town Party is an excellent opportunity for Maui’s residents and visitors to explore Makawao’s one-of-a kind town center.


There will be a multitude of entertainment and food options along Baldwin Avenue, which will be closed from Brewer Road to Makawao Avenue this evening.  Stroll from one end of Makawao to the other to experience all the highlights.

Crush on Maui Parking Area: 

6:30 – 8:30 p.m.  Children of the Forest features teens from
Seabury and King Kekaulike High Schools performing local tunes, classic rock
and other favorites

6:00 – 9:00 p.m.  Hoaloha Westcott, Slack Key Guitarist and lovely
hula dancer, Manawale`a.

Main Stage:

6:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Joshua-on-Maui, Solo Classic Pop Rock Guitarist

7:00 – 8:00 p.m.  EKOLU Trio

8:00 – 9:00 p.m.  Joshua-on-Maui Trio performing Classic Pop Rock

“Keiki Art” with the Hui on the Designing Wahine Green:

6:00 – 9:00 p.m. The Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center is proud to join the Makawao Friday Town Party.  Visit the Hui booth adjacent to Designing Wahine with your little ones to meet Hui teaching artist and renowned Maui jeweler Julie Matheis, who will be sharing her panache for painting faces while also being her usual charming self – happy to answer any questions you have about classes, open studios, history & garden tours, exhibitions and most anything else the Hui has to offer!

The After Party:

And if you are looking for the after-party, Casanova’s is the place to be!  EKOLU will be headlining this evening from 10:00 p.m.  Cover $10 per person before 10 p.m./$15 after (21 years & older only).

Food & Beverage Concessions:

Along with our Makawao Restaurants of Casanova Italian Restaurant, Makawao Steak House, Makawao Sushi & Deli, Market Fresh Bistro, and Polli’s Mexican Restaurant, additional concessions will join the festivities – Aloha Juice Hut, Boys & Girls Club Upcountry Teens Club Chili & Rice, Da Local Banana, Da Puerto Rican Food Truck, Keiki Kastles “Green” Shave Ice & Cotton Candy, Kinaole Grill, Poi Mochi, Outrigger Pizza, Popcorn Mama, Klayston’s Kalbi Plate, Star Anise, and more to be announced soon.

“Green” Educational Booths: Joining us this evening will be organizations that Reduce, Reuse and Recycle -

Aloha Recycling (the what, how and why of recycling), Community Work Day (propogated edible and native organic plant starts to support 20 schools and community gardens), and more to be announced soon.
