Central Maui Pedestian and Bicycle Plan Released
Chris Hart & Partners and NPAC: Nutrition & Physical Activity Coalition of Maui County will release a pedestrian and bicycle master plan for central Maui. The Plan envisions central Maui becoming a world-class pedestrian and bicyclist community. A sample of the Plan's exciting recommendations include a separated pedestrian and bicycle shared-use path linking Waikapu and Wailuuku, a network of separated bikeways and sidewalks within Kahului, and a landscaped pedestrian and bicycle esplanade along Kahului Beach road, fronting the harbor. The Master Plan was funded by the Tobacco Settlement Special Fund, Healthy Hawai`i Initiatitve, State Dept of Health. The event is supported, in part, by Hui No Ke Ola Pono, the Native Hawaiian Healthcare System on Maui. Architects who are members of the Maui branch of the American Institute of Architects will receive one continuing education credit for attending. Light refreshments will be served.
